About Tartan of Redlands
Welcome to Tartan of Redlands, the quintessential local steakhouse that has been serving the community since 1964. We provide a traditional dining experience that unites generations over delicious food, and we are well-known for our Saturday Prime Rib, juicy hand-cut steaks, Redlands Famous Tartan Burger, and full-service bar.
We’re more than just a place to eat—we’re a part of Redlands’ story, a local landmark where memories are made, traditions are honored, and everyone who walks through our doors is treated like family.
Our History: A Steakhouse Legacy Since 1964
Tartan of Redlands was founded on April 15, 1964, as a result of the vision and diligence of three brothers, Art, Al, and Velmer Ctoteau. Their goal was simple but ambitious: to create a timeless steakhouse where great food and genuine hospitality would keep guests coming back again and again.
Early on, the restaurant was managed by Larry Westin, who became a beloved figure in the community and later a partner in the business. Larry and his wife dedicated themselves to running Tartan for decades, turning it into a cornerstone of the Redlands dining scene.
After Larry’s passing in 2003, his son Larry Westin Jr. carried on the family legacy, maintaining the restaurant’s warm, familiar vibe. In 2015, the Tartan was passed on to its current owners, Jeff and Lisa Salamon, who continue to honor the restaurant’s traditions while enhancing its service and offerings.
Meet Jeff and Lisa Salamon
Jeff Salamon, a proud Marine Corps veteran originally from Boston, Massachusetts, brings a deep sense of discipline, integrity, and respect to his role as co-owner. Jeff and his wife Lisa have put in endless effort to maintain the Tartan’s classic charm while prioritizing the visitor experience.
Their commitment to the restaurant’s core values—quality, consistency, and community—is evident in every plate served and every guest interaction. Even with a change in ownership, the Tartan remains true to its roots, offering the same warm welcome that’s defined it for generations.
A True Redlands Tradition
With good cause, Tartan of Redlands has been affectionately dubbed “The Cheers of Redlands” over the years. Guests aren’t just patrons—they’re regulars, neighbors, and friends. We know your name, your favorite drink, and your go-to order. For many families, Tartan is the place where birthdays are celebrated, milestones are toasted, and weekend traditions are made.
That sense of familiarity is what keeps people coming back. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or the fiftieth, you’ll feel like part of the Tartan family the moment you step inside.
